Staying Sane During Injury Breaks in Pole and Aerial Training

Perhaps the poler and aerialist’s worst nightmare: having to take time out due to injury. Most likely, at some point in your long-term pole or aerial journey, something will happen for a number of different reasons, and a body part will say no, I’m in pain, let’s rest for a sec.

When this happens, we usually go through all or some of these stages:

– disbelief or trying to ignore the injury and carrying on as normal (ouch)

– frustration, disappointment or anger

– impatience with the rest and recovery or rehab process

– having a hard time accepting the injury and fear of missing out

– finding it tough to ease back in gently

No wonder that a lot of pole and aerial aficionados struggle with this process, and in some cases, never end up coming back to their beloved sport because the mindset piece of injury recovery just kicks their ass more than they can handle.

So what can we do to cope with time out or alterations to our training due to injury?
