Pole and aerial classes get progressively more challenging as you climb (excuse the pun) along the levels from beginner to advanced. At some point along your journey, you may benefit from a spot, whether that is for a bit of reassurance, some tactile feedback and to support coordination, for safety, or to help you tap into that last little bit of strength.

Points of view on spotting differ depending on who you ask. Some people love a spot, others hate it, some polers and aerialists get distracted by a spot because they can’t help but worry about the spotter when they should be worrying about themselves, some teachers are incredibly good spotters, others believe in spotting as little as possible, and much more.

So what is the actual benefit of spotting? What is best practice? And what other strategies can you rely on when you prefer not to be spotted?

Join me on this podcast episode where we address all things spotting. From the different types of spotting, to why you don’t have to be nervous, that it is highly unlikely that you will hurt your instructor spotting you and all the other things you can do if you prefer not to be touched.
