Two of the questions we get asked most often as a pole and aerial studio are:

1. Can I start without any experience?

And
2.  Can I come if I am not thin?

Let’s talk about it and the fact that pole and aerial arts classes can be enjoyed by every body type, shape, weight and size. However, just like in every area of society, living in a bigger body comes with some challenges.

So we did a thing and invited a panel of five plus-size polers and aerialists to do a 3-part podcast special with us: pole teacher Sophie, aerial hoop teacher in training Clare, and pole and aerial students Becky, Thalia, Kerry, Fiona and Saf.

Each share their lived experience as a plus-size poler and aerialist, from frank accounts of stuff that hasn’t been so cool, all the way to embracing pole and aerial as a way to celebrate our bodies. We cover a variety of topics, from teaching techniques and coaching philosophies, to pole wear sizing, navigating social media, limiting self-beliefs, societal expectations, studio atmosphere, recommendations for training providers and the wider pole and aerial community to keep on striving for inclusivity for every size.
