Are we more likely to succeed in a group class?

Hiya reader and pole/aerial (perhaps soon to be?) enthusiast!

As a studio owner of nearly 10 years, and someone who has enjoyed pole and aerial training since the hot summer of 2010, I truly do believe that the group class environment sets us up for long term success.

But how do you explain the feel of a pole or aerial group class to someone who has never been?

It really does kick ass and I personally believe it is one of,
if not, THE main reason,
a lot of us continued after that very first class and now find ourselves several years in.

I truly believe that the group class atmosphere in pole and aerial studios is one of the main drivers behind:

– consistency
– confidence
– clocking some epic wins.

We can actually for once take a back seat and not be the woman in charge.
Hyper independent, hyper vigilant, hyper “I gotta do it as otherwise it won’t get done” girls, we see you.

In a group class, we can let go of always being in the driver’s seat.
The support around us is buoying us.
Not always that inner drive.

Can feel like a massive relief to just for one hour a week,
NOT be the one who has to make decisions,
care for everyone,
get shit done,
and instead just get the drive, strength, get up and go from the atmosphere.

As a beginner or someone just eyeing up trying a class, that very same group class can feel SO intimidating.

It’s almost like the thing that we are most scared of will actually become our biggest source of strength and motivation.

We fear being judged.
Feeling alone and like the loser odd one out newbie that everyone laughs at.
Walking in and making a fool of ourselves.
Not belonging.
Worry how we’ll be perceived and if we even click with anyone.

Truth is, there is not a single person in any pole or aerial studio across the entire globe that was not a beginner once.

The confident one.
The good one.
The smiley one.
The loud one.
The ripped one.
The amazing dancer.
The strong one.
The one that gets everything on the first go.
The one that is so inspiring with their grit and determination.

Yup. That’s right.

All of these people were also the first timer once.

And they’ve allowed themselves to feel the discomfort of starting.
It’s a ritual none of us can escape if we want to bash out some epic shit on the pole or the hoop with fun other people 🙂

The amazing thing is that the group environment is actually what allows so many people to become the confident one, the strong one, the smiley one, the amazing dancer.

There is power in numbers, and you know how good it feels when just one person cheers for you.
Now when eight people are in your corner?
Mega slay!

Exercising with a group where everyone roots for each other is where people can unlock strength, bravery and dig deeper than any time before.

And you know, it’s also somewhere we can make friends and meet new people as adults.

Collectively, adults are lonelier than ever.

A lot of us work from home.

We move a lot and in turn lose contact with people.

The magic of a group class does not stop at the support, the hype, the encouragement, the “we’re in it together”.

It is also a wonderful social environment where people make connections with others.

From just knowing there’s a few people to chat to after a gruelling day in the home office,
to making life-long friends and everything in between.

So group class is not just a performance enhancer but also a nice people surrounder <3

Love this for us!
