Pole and Aerial Birthday Parties

Party Time: Spin into Your Birthday

There is no denying that pole dance and aerial fitness is literally everywhere – who remembers JLo poling on her world tour, FKA twigs currently wows her concert goers with an awe-inspiring live pole routine on stage, P!nk is an aerial badass and we’ve all seen the Greatest Showman!

You may frequently see some pole and aerial clips on social media, or one of the girls in the office has chatted about going on a hen do where everyone tried pole dancing. Maybe you even know someone who does pole or aerial fitness as a sport every week!

Not surprising really, as these hobbies are unique in combining strength, body confidence, sensuality, a light-hearted atmosphere, and they are a second to none ice breaker for groups without being awkward or stifling. Cue – pole and aerial are perfect if you are celebrating a birthday and want to get different friend groups and family together without having to worry about the social element! Also, there’s no reason why birthdays should no longer have fun activities just because we are adults, and there is so much more out there to celebrate another year than getting drunk!

Often, one of the biggest fear when we organise a birthday get together is how the group will gel when planning activities, and being conscious of the fact that a lot of people are meeting each other for the very first time. A pole or aerial class can quickly fast-forward past the tricky social element and instill a sense of community, togetherness and freedom from the get go! Plus it’s a great laugh and will create tons of epic memories for everyone!

Additionally, pole dancing or aerial circus for a birthday party is incredibly versatile, it can appeal to all interests and abilities in your group:

  • Those who want to get a sweat on can!
  • Those who want to pose for a few cute photos without getting out of breath can!

And anyone who does not fancy taking part shall be chief-hype-person and photographer/videographer in charge! This way, everybody is involved, even when they cannot or choose not to physically take part themselves. As we all know from the popularity of spectator sports, sometimes watching and cheering everyone one from the sidelines is just as much fun as doing the sport itself <3

Ok so but let’s be real for a second:

The thought of doing a pole class or aerial circus session may make some people fear having to rock up in shorts and crop top for a super intense workout, just so they can come along and celebrate someone’s birthday. There are definitely people who cringe a bit at the thought of this. And you can definitely do that if that’s what your group is looking for, but the reality is that a pole dance or aerial arts class for a birthday sesh can be angled towards the social and fun aspect, rather than the hardcore workout.

Pole and aerial are also fancy-dress-friendly too, so if your birthday bash has a theme, you can absolutely complete the class in variety of costumes. As long as the clothing isn’t too restrictive, it provides comfortable and free movement, then anything goes! It is indeed possible to complete a pole dance birthday session in full length leggings and t-shirt, so no shorts and crop tops required for anyone who does not feel comfortable to wear them.

Regarding clothing, the only aspect your host studio may be stricter on is jewellery as rings, bracelets and necklaces can lead to injuries when getting stuck mid-spin or mid-pose and scratch the poles or tear the aerial arts fabrics.

What to expect in a pole dance or aerial arts birthday sesh?

Safety first! As it is a sport, you and your group will have to fill in some paperwork as you would with any physical activity. For aerial arts, you will find crash mats underneath the aerial circus apparatus so the session will be barefoot or in socks. This may be electronically in the lead up to the event, or on arrival. Your host studio may have some gifts, decorations, refreshments or even birthday party kits ready on arrival.

Aerial circus classes can involve a range of cool equipment, such as aerial hoops (a steel circle suspended from the ceiling), aerial fabrics (two silk ribbons hanging from the ceiling), trapeze and more! Pole does exactly what it says on the tin and you can explore the full range of pole styles, from strong to sexy, moves and poses to a cheeky and light-hearted choreo. Your host studio will check with you beforehand if you have a preference on equipment, or even do a class on a range of different pieces of kit.

Most aerial or pole birthday parties last between 60-90 minutes and involve a warm up, the main bulk of the session learning poses, holds and routines on the equipment with ample time for photos and videos, and a cool down.

As a very general rule, your group will complete a warm up activity which may comprise of some mobilisation routines, or some games before diving into the main element of the session: poses, holds and spins on the pole or in the air! Depending on your party package, your trainer may work on a short routine with you – doing a sassy pole choreography to a song that brings back some fun memories or is special treat for the group can be super fun here!

Other options also involve games with little prizes up for grabs, and fun doubles poses that look fantastic in photos! Your host studio will discuss the content options of their party packages with you beforehand. Most providers aim to ensure you get the bespoke experience you desire, after all we want to create lasting and fun memories for all involved and be part of an unforgettable birthday!
